What is Dharma in Hinduism?

Dharma in Hinduism is the natural law or the internal nature. This video explains the concept in an easy to understand manner for kids. ✰ Contents of this video ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ 00:05 - Definition of Dharma 00:41 - Dharma - the natural law 01:38 - Dharma - the internal nature 02:39 - Dharma and us 03:34 - Lessons from Shri Ram Definition of Dharma Dharma originates from the Sanskrit word dhri which means to hold or support. Hinduism or Sanatan Dharma means the eternal natural way, the order that makes life and the universe possible Dharma - the natural law Think about it, the laws that ensures planets rotate and revolve in their respective orbits and don’t collapse into each other, cycles of nature such as water cycle, nitrogen cycle, carbon cycle etc work properly, animals participate in food chains and food webs and maintain the ecological balance. We identify all these laws as Dharma. Just like gravity is a law of nature that exists regardless if anyone believes in it or not, similarly, Dharma is applicable to all Dharma - the internal nature Dharma also means inherent nature or characteristics. Fire’s dharma is to burn, water’s dharma is to moisten, earth’s dharma is to bear the weight and provide necessities to enable life. Tree’s Dharma is to provide fresh air and shade, lion’s dharma is to prey, bee’s dharma is to pollinate. In short, all living and non-living entities are supposed to play their part or fulfill their Dharma to enable the functioning of this universe. Dharma and us Humans are special and unusual creatures with unconceivable potential and unique capabilities from extra ordinary brains, speech, opposable thumbs to upright posture that has allowed us to change our world dramatically. Because of such combinations of special traits and capabilities, humans have established primary importance among other creatures in nature. As you may know, with great power comes great responsibilities. Hence, It’s extremely important that Humans realize and act according their Dharma in order to conduct appropriate and responsible behaviors to peacefully co exist because when they don’t, things fall apart and we see destruction everywhere. And what are these responsible behaviors and conduct? Just like things in nature have purpose and characteristics, we all have certain roles and characteristics. let’s take your example,  you are a son or daughter so you have a responsibility to be respectful to your parents. You have friends and maybe siblings or cousins, and your responsibility is to cooperate with them, help them in times of need and celebrate good things together. You are a student so you should study hard and give your best at academics and extra-curricular activities. You also live in a community so its important you help take care of your environment around you, as well as our broader world. And this can go on and on as we are all unique and have many different roles that we play. Each of those roles comes with a slice of responsibilities, that combine to give each of us a unique rainbow of our individual dharma. Lessons from Shri Ram The opposite of Dharma is Adharma. There are thousands of stories in our culture that highlight the importance of following dharma and resisting adharma, both within ourselves and around us. Our biggest festival, the festival of Diwali means many things but at the most basic level, it is a celebration of the victory of dharma, as represented by  Ram, against the forces of adharma. Bhagwan Ram was the Prince of Ayodhya and rightful heir to the throne. He faced many hardships but always followed the path of dharma, be it in respecting his parents’ wishes when it came to taking vanvaas, being a loyal friend to Sugriv, being a good husband and rescuing Sita from Ravaan, and being a good King by ruling justly. Bhagwan’s Ram’s path teaches us that no matter how rocky the road, following the path of dharma always leads us to victory – both within ourselves and over our external challenges. ✰ More videos and connect with me ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ ► Subscribe to my channel: https://tinyurl.com/y94kebzk ► All Young and Dharmic videos: https://tinyurl.com/ydgnjzkj ► Instagram: @youngndharmic ► Facebook:   / youngndharmic   ✰ About Young and Dharmic ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ Young and Dharmic videos explain complex concepts of Hinduism in an easy to understand manner.
