The best way to see Milford Sound is to take a cruise, but not just any cruise. There are many different boats that go through the sound, but if you want to lose the crowds and have an intimate experience, we suggest exploring Milford Sound this way. Here's what we suggest. Take a smaller boat. We chose Mitre Peak Cruises. This boat holds a maximum of 75 people. There were only a couple dozen people on the day we went. If you're brave you can REALLY immerse yourself in the waterfall like Greg did. We also saw momma and baby seals lounging on the rocks which were adorable. Lastly, to fully have the Milford Sound experience, we recommend you base yourself in Te Anau, rent a car, and take the Milford Sound Drive.
