He was also successful in various other fields, including mountaineering, chess and poetry, and it has also been alleged that he was a spy for the British government. Besides he was a great fan of founder of Modern Turkish Republic Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, which is why his son's name was Aleister Atatürk Crowley.
