The Alamance-Burlington School meeting got heated Monday night following public comment about the Southern Alamance High yearbook. A group of parents stated their concerns with one of the yearbook pages. It was a ‘year in review’ type page that was concerning for parents and was said to highlight political and racial issues in America. One parent said his daughter who is a member of the yearbook staff has been name-called on social media, along with her fellow classmates. "My daughter researched the facts for the layout - the presidential election end result - built a timeline graphic. She was required to use basics of journalism such as fact-checking, verified sources in her reporting. Summarizing an election and its results are facts, simple as that. A yearbook is a historical record of what happened that year in and out of school and a journalistic tool to give relevance to what happened that year," the parent said. Board Chair, Allison Gant said she spoke with Superintendent Dr. Bruce Benson about reviewing yearbook protocols. The meeting got heated as Board Member, Patsy Simpson disagreed saying the chair shouldn’t discuss things with the superintendent without consulting the board.
