Goodness, this thing was dirty!  We also loved the resort’s close proximity to Fast Eddie’s Restaurant next door for pizza and a quick FOS Crew Breakfast Meetup before we left the area. We had a bit of a scare on our way to Chicken to meet up with our friends when we came upon a truck rolled over on the side of the road. Thankfully no one was in the vehicle. The RV life is so strange sometimes. The last time we were with Shaun and Ana was in Key West, Florida, last winter seRVing at the SOS Foundation! The fact that we were able to catch up with them at West Fork BLM Campground where they are working for the summer on the other side of the continent is pretty incredible!  Not only were we excited to experience the little town of Chicken, Alaska, this time up here, but we couldn’t wait to FINALLY try our hand at gold panning!  Gold claims are serious business in Alaska, so you can’t just go looking for gold anywhere you want. Shaun took us to some public BLM land where you are able to pan for gold legally! We had a blast and left a little richer than we were when we arrived! We wrapped up our day exploring Chicken by driving up to the start of the Top of the World Highway and picking some fireweed to make fireweed jelly! Fireweed is a flower that works as a summer calendar in Alaska. When the pink flowers bloom all the way to the top of the stalk, summer is over!
