LAPUTA PIANO SUITE - Joe Hisaishi

I've mentioned many scores & films over the years that bring back fond childhood memories, and whilst it's true most were composed by James Horner, there was this little animated film from 1986 that perhaps tops them all. Laputa the Flying Island aired in the UK in the early 90's, and my parents recorded it on video tape for me and my sisters. Over the following few years, we must have nearly worn out the tape, and came to know most of the dialogue by heart. The music had a tremendous impact too. Sadly, the tape was lost, and many years later I found it on DVD! Amazing. Except, it wasn't. Within seconds something was wrong - the music - the voices...! And what the hell was a "castle" in the sky? (Don't tell me why) After some digging I found out that this was the USA version, completely re-dubbed and it just didn't sit right at all. I've never been able to find that version we knew and loved as children - but the closest I could find was the Japanese version on Netflix, which has Hisaishi's original score and voice actors whose tone was comparable to the early 90's UK version. After a massive hit of nostalgia, I set about transcribing some of my favourite musical cues into this piano suite. (I had to re-upload this after editing out the beautiful Sheeta's Decision as youtube blocked the video because of that section. Very frustrating as it's one of the best moments in the suite) Anyone coming to this familiar with only the USA dub will find this odd I'm sure, and it probably won't sound right to them, so I'm sorry for that. Anyway, I'm dedicating this to my sister Jacqueline who also adored this film when we were young.
