An October road trip up the Dalton Highway in Alaska. 414 Miles of mostly unpaved roads across the arctic circle, the Brooks Mountain Range, and the North Slope of Alaska to Deadhorse. One night on the way up was spent in Coldfoot Camp, where the northern lights were out in full force. The Dalton was featured on the TV show "Ice Road Truckers" and numerous "most dangerous roads in the world" shows. A mixture of pavement and gravel, the road includes stunning views of the Alaska Oil Pipeline, a 240 mile gap between gas stations, an arctic circle crossing, the highest elevation road access in Alaska (and also the continental divide), and the most northern point you can reach in America by public road (Deadhorse, Alaska).
