Hiking to Bosnia & Herzegovina's MOST Remote Village | Lukomir

After spending a couple days in the capital city of Sarajevo, we hiked to the tiny village of Lukomir which is often called "the last Bosnian Village." Just 50 kilometers outside the capital, this is actually the highest and the most isolated mountain settlement in Bosnia and Herzegovina. It sits around 5,000 feet above sea level on the beautiful mountain Bjelašnica. Home to semi-nomadic herders, the village has been inhabited for hundreds of years. The villagers live in Lukomir during the summer months but descend to lower villages and surrounding areas during the harsh winters. The village is very picturesque, composed of old houses traditionally made of stone and wood.
