Charlene Simba: Business Analyst and founder of GraceSimba community village, a community interest organisation, supporting victims of domestic violence as they rebid their lives. Beyond Charlene’s professional role, she is also an expert by experience. Ending Violence Against Women and Girls: How Close Are We? Universal Peace Federation - UK October 12th at 43 Lancaster Gate, London, W2 3NA Report - https://bit.ly/489hstI On October 12th the Universal Peace Federation UK convened an event to highlight the lack of development in the 'Elimination Violence Against Women and Girls'. The Universal Peace Federation UK has long championed this cause through its annual Elimination of Violence Against Women and Girls conferences and its active participation in the ‘16 Days of Activism’ campaign between November 25th and the UN Human Rights Day on December 10th. This conference brought together thought leaders and professionals from diverse fields—including social services, psychiatry, law enforcement, women's support services, legal experts, and the private sector— addressing both the achievements and ongoing challenges in the fight to end violence against women and girls. The situation is complex and across the world varies according to cultural norms. It was fitting that the speakers during the programme were from many national backgrounds and professions drawn together by the effect of this common fundamental issue. Speakers often referred to the need to overcome prejudices while victories were rightly applauded. In the UK, speakers offered the contrast of progress in some areas but more concerted effort, reflection and the wider support of men needed to make changes comprehensive and with the acceptance and encouragement of all.
