Dear All, GSSL is very happy to inform you that the GSSL public lecture was held on 17th September 2024, at 09:00 AM (SLST). Dr. Indishe Senanayake (Research Associate - The University of Newcastle - Australia), delivered the lecture titled “Spatial Data Science for Natural Resource Management”. Spatial Data Science plays a transformative role in natural resource management. By leveraging Remote Sensing, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), and data analytics, Spatial Data Science provides innovative tools for monitoring and managing a country's natural resources. In Sri Lanka, spatial data techniques can offer important insights for the sustainable management of natural resources. This lecture will highlight practical applications of Spatial Data Science, including spatial data-driven approaches for monitoring soil moisture, hydrological systems, land-use changes, and mineral exploration, which are essential for balancing development with conservation. Specifically, this lecture will focus on how integrating spatial data into resource management strategies can improve decision-making processes, ensuring the optimal utilisation of Sri Lanka’s natural assets.
