This week for BanjoTuneWeekly we have powerhouse banjo player Colton Powers playing a great version of the Earl Scruggs classic "Earl's Breakdown" Born and raised in the hills of East Tennessee, Colton Powers is a traditional banjo player taking after players such as Earl Scruggs, JD Crowe, and Jim Mills. He started playing banjo in 2012 when gifted his first banjo by his father Beecher Powers. Since then, he started taking lessons off of local legend Tommy Freeman and attending local jams learning the repertoire of most of the local pickers. Colton then attended the ETSU bluegrass program where his love for the music continued to grow. Colton joined the Sevier county based band Seth Mulder and Midnight Run in 2017 where they play no less than 250 shows a year between touring and playing at Ole Smokey Moonshine distillery. The band was also nominated for the IBMA Momentum Band of the Year Award in 2020. He has toured in the United States as well as in the United Kingdom in countries such as Ireland, England, and Scotland. He has had many banjos but currently can be seen playing his uncut 1928 Gibson tb-2 conversion with rolled brass hoop lovingly nicknamed "Old Man" Subscribe for more banjo talent and to be notified when a new video arrives!
