Tango Tyrolskie - Stanisław Laudan & Zespół taneczny „Banda” [Stanislaw Laudan & "Banda" Dance Ensemble - Tyrolean Tango ] (Horbowski-Jerry) Syrena-Electro 1939 (Polish) NOTE: Stanislaw LAUDAN (born Stanislaw Landau in 1912 near Lwów - died 1992 in London) popular Polish singer and composer who also recorded under the name "Staś Ostrołęka". In the mid-1930s, he performed in Lwów in the student theatre "8:05", then left for Kraków, where until the outbreak of World War II he performed in the revue theatre "Bagatela" and also had performances in the „Capitol” cinema. In 1938, he organised the dance-jazz ensemble "Banda", in which several younger Kraków jazz musicians played, including the Haar brothers Zygmunt (tenor saxophone) and Leopold (drums) and Jan Potok (trumpet). After outbreak of the war, Laudan's orchestra left for Lwów where it performed in restaurants and dance halls until outbreak of the Soviet-German war in June 1941. During the war, some of the musicians perished in the Lwów’s or Kraków's German ghettos, while others - like Stanisław Laudan - managed to leave the Soviet Union with the Polish Emigration Army organised in 1941/42 in Kazakhstan by General Władysław Anders. Stanislaw Laudan followed the entire combat route of the Polish Army up to the Battle of Monte Cassino in Italy in 1944. In 1945, he went to London, where he developed a wide artistic activity among the Polish emigration. Very popular in the so-called 'Polish London', Laudan performed on the stages of Polish clubs and later ran his own publishing house, remaining active until his old age. This album was released in Warsaw in July/August 1939, a few weeks before the outbreak of the 2nd World War. The slideshow is, of course, devoted to vintage views of Tirol – a very popular wintersport region among Polish prewar elites.
