Last weekend saw the first real winter swell of the year so far, and although at times it was howling onshore or torrential downpours and often both, there were short windows of genuinely pumping surf, and professional surfer Seth Morris sure made the most of those windows. Seth is one of Britain's most accomplished surfers, with many national titles and having represented GB and England at the ISA world surfing games, he is currently competing on the @WSL qualifying circuit with ambitions to make the challenger series. He is best known for his super smooth style and enviable ability of making it look easy. Seth was visiting from Pembrokeshire for some performance coaching with Damon Beveridge, read what he had to say and check out the clips of him taking on the big swell in Croyde. It was great to have Seth visit for a couple days, we have been planning on hooking up for a couple weeks now, so I was stoked we managed to get to work in some proper waves. Seth will be one of six English surfers competing in the British Cup this weekend, and although he is no stranger to surfing heats, during the QS this year he had been falling short with some of his scores, so we wanted to look at him pushing harder on the bigger, more critical sections to see if this combined with his silky smooth rail work will help get him into the ‘excellent’ range. Seth is one of those surfers who puts it all together really nicely on a wave from start to finish, rarely falling or making a mistake. While it is super pretty to watch, the less risk often means less reward at the top end. Technical feedback through video analysis, accompanied with a few heat drills with local rippers Beau Betteridge and Will Bailey meant for a really productive couple of days of surf training. Some of Seth's more notable results over his career are: 3x British Junior Champion, 4x Welsh champion 1x English Junior Champion He has been a finalist in three of the last four Mens Open English nationals He reached the quarter-finals in the ISA World Junior Surfing Championships of 2017 and finished 13th in the 2019 European Men's Championships.
