The Films of David Fincher - Director Tribute

David Fincher isn’t just a great director, he has birthed among the most distinctive cinematic styles of all time. His films are dark, twisted, sick, bitter, yet endlessly re watchable, somehow able to catapult the viewer into a world of horror whilst still ensuring a delightful experience. He partially does this through style, the cinematography, set design and remarkable scores (done mostly in collaboration with Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross) are instrumental in the construction of these immersive roller coaster rides. His films explore human psychology and then extrapolate the extent to which ordinary people can descend into utter barbarism, from John Doe in Seven to Amy Dunne in Gone Girl. His films are stylish and bold, and as he ages, he somehow manages to refine his craft. Fincher directs with surgical precision, an heir to the throne left by the passing of Kubrick, and arguably an even greater filmmaker. Whether Fincher explores serial killers, embittered wives, or obsessive detectives, he remains loyal in his goal of authenticity by simultaneously subverting cliches whilst crafting eerily relatable stories. Even if half the time we relate to a complete psychopath, it is Fincher who opens our eyes to the possibility that perhaps we have more in common with these monsters than we’d like to admit. Beyond mere pieces of art, his films act as mirrors. Please note that out of respect for David Fincher, I have omitted Alien 3.
