On July the 8th Russia celebrates The Day of Saint Peter and Saint Fevronia, the Orthodox patrons of marriage and love between the spouses. From the 16th century this day was celebrated by the Orthodox Church, and recently, in 2008, it became a secular celebration known as the Day of Family, Love and Fidelity. It was established as an alternative to St. Valentine’s day. The promoters of this celebration suggest that the Day of Family, Love and Fidelity reflects much better the traditional Russian ideal of Love.
