Cornwall: The Basics

Unusually Large Driving Wheels: Part 1. Built in 1847 by Francis, the son of Rail Pioneer Richard Trevithick, the Cornwall was the standard gauge response to the Brunelian monsters of the broad gauge. Although not succesful in her first form, John Ramsbottom transformed her into a handsome, and useful six-wheeler. When she was finally withdrawn from service in 1927 she was then the oldest locomotive at work on the National Network.
