With over 811,000 sales for the Citation in just its first year, it was a huge hit for GM. But soon after, reports of rust, engine fires, and inability to safely stop in heavy braking, caught the attention of the NHTSA, and eventually a lawsuit, resulting in the Citation being one of the most recalled vehicles ever produced. It was discontinued in 1985, with only a fraction of sales that last year compared to its first year.
