This is another episode of the lakeboat time machine and we're in Buffalo, New York watching as a steam railroad engine has its rail cars are being filled with iron ore by way of Thornberger steam unloaders. We get a lesson in how that unloading was actually done and see how the dump buckets really functioned. The 326 foot Great Lakes ore freighter ALVA is the star of this show as we see how it was done, long before the Edmund Fitzgerald and her modern cousins were born. There is a special close up view of an historic steam locomotive and a request for those steam railroad fans to comment and give us more information on that engine.
