Talking "Atomic" Watch In Depth Review

First up, let me give you a link to a great website which is all about Casio G-Shock watches. It's www.g-central.com . In this episode of The Good Timekeeping Show I'll review a relatively inexpensive watch with a couple of nice, useful and fun features. First of all, it's a talking watch. A synthesized voice will announce the time whenever you tap the "2 o'clock button". You can also set the watch to give an hourly announcement at the top of each hour. This is obviously an essential feature for people who have various levels of vision disabilities. The other, major feature of this watch is that it has a built-in radio receiver tuned to WWVB in the United States. At 3:00 every morning this watch will activate its receiver and attempt to update the time and date automatically. If reception is unsuccessful the user can manually start time reception by pressing and holding the "10 o'clock button". I have found that the watch's WWVB reception isn't quite as strong as it is on my Casio watches. So take a little extra care to place the watch in a good location at night to allow better reception. The watch in this video doesn't have a brand name or manufacturer's name on it. However, I have seen very similar watches with names like REIZEN, Five Senses, Lifemax, On-Time, JSJ and others. These others all seem to have the same basic look with the same number of buttons to access functions and settings. Some have a slightly different shape. Some may have leather watch bands (like the one in this video) or metal bracelets. The main point is that there are several variations available which are basically the same watch. It should be noted that this watch isn't water resistant at all, so the user should be careful to keep it dry. The reason it cannot be water resistant is that there are vents in the back of the watch to allow the sound of the voice to come out. The voice isn't very loud but also isn't too quiet. I think the makers of this watch have struck a comfortable balance between having a watch that is disruptively loud and having a watch which is too quiet to be practical.
