In this video, I go over a comparison of the gold premium and spread between 1/10oz gold coins and the half sovereign gold coin. Both are very popular fractional gold coins for gold stacking but the half sovereign is definitely more popular in the UK due to being a tax advantaged coin with very high liquidy where as the 1/10oz gold coin may be a better option internationally where the half sovereign is less popular. Depending on your budget, fractional gold coins such as the half sovereign or 1/10oz gold coins can be a decent plan to consistently stack gold with monthly purchases but the premiums are far higher than most other options for stacking gold. Although some people do say that you can sometimes get the premiums back on fractional gold, this does seem to be far more rare than many people suggests and if you are selling your gold coins to a precious metals bullion dealer then you can usually expect around spot. Mathematically for stacking as much gold as possible for as little fiat currency as possible, the half sovereign definitely makes more sense, especially the pre-owned, mixed date half sovereigns that come in with a very small premium. Out of the coins that I have researched, the half sovereign is actually the second best fractional gold coin when it comes to low premium fractional gold with the full sovereign being a slightly better option by around two percent. Personally, I prefer the look of 1/10 oz gold coins that are 9999 gold rather than the look of the 22 carat half sovereign but the considerably higher premium on the 0.10oz gold coins almost force you to go with the half sovereign when looking to stack gold for weight while investing in gold coins. There is a ton of history and variation in the half sovereign too and it can be common to get coins that are over 100 years old so you do have that trade off and the older gold sovereigns definitely have a better color to them with the coin actually looking like gold while also usually having the better premium too.
