I cleaned the thermocouple and thermopile with sand paper and the gas fireplace still would not stay lit! Then used brake cleaner on the two sensors and pilot and that fixed it!!! I also understand that the pilot often gets covered with lint so blowing air or gently poking a wire might help. Sometimes the pilot will light but flame comes out from bottom, which means lint issue. Pilots sometimes get a clogged orifice due to residue build up. Google gas pilot orifice cleaning tool
