It is a very nice GA airport with a lot of helicopter and glider activity, and given how busy it was on a winter Friday afternoon, I can imagine that it can get pretty crowded in the summer. On top of this it has a special pattern due to noise-sensitive areas, so precise navigation and a sharp lookout are necessary, as well as a basic understanding of the German phraseology (to know what the local pilots are doing), even if the AFIS personnel speaks perfect English to foreign pilots. My visit was pretty uneventful - which is always good in aviation - except for some comical relief on the way back, but I am not going to spoil the video ;) I had to keep an eye out on a preceding aircraft while exiting the CTR of Charleroi, and I have seen plenty of sights along the way, plus there is a lot of radio communications in the video as usual, so please go ahead, and enjoy the flight with me! 00:00 Requesting taxi from EBCI Ground 00:47 Taxi clearance changed to S2 01:19 Cleared for take-off 01:52 Take-off EBCI RWY 06 02:27 Traffic information about the preceding aircraft also heading to exit point SIERRA 03:26 Switching to Brussels Information after exiting the CTR 04:10 Skipping over the traffic 04:50 In-flight briefing of today's trip 05:29 The Circuit of Spa-Francorchamps 06:20 The High Fens (and the highest point of Belgium) 06:48 Leaving the Belgian airspace (with friendly controller) 07:05 Contacting Langen Information (squawk ident) 07:53 Above the Rur Reservoir (Rurstausee or Rursee) in the Eifel 08:06 Initial briefing about the arrival to Bonn-Hangelar 08:39 Requesting landing information from Bonn-Hangelar Radio 09:22 Views of Bonn (and monitoring traffic) 10:02 Crossing the Rhine river (practice your German phraseology listening here) 10:42 Joining right hand downwind for EDKB RWY 11 11:20 Turning right base (somewhat wider than prescribed due to preceding traffic) 11:44 Turning final 12:35 Landing EDKB RWY 11 12:53 Replay - Cabin view 13:06 Replay - Ving view 13:23 Vacating the runway and parking instructions on the way to the grass apron 14:29 After landing checklist on the parking spot and a quick welcome to Bonn 14:50 Requesting departure and taxi information for the return leg 15:33 Taxi to holding point RWY 11 (views of the tower, helicopters, signal square) 16:54 Before take-off checklist (partially shown) 17:16 Lining up and departing from RWY 11 18:10 After take-off flow 18:27 Good-bye from EDKB AFIS then contacting Langen Information 19:09 Crossing the Rhine with downtown and castle views 19:30 Spotting the dome of the Fraunhofer-Institut für Hochfrequenzphysik und Radartechnik 19:51 Passing by the Effelsberg 100-m Radio Telescope 19:58 Difficult visibility (wish I had something against the Sun :D) 20:05 Passing the Steinfeld Monastery and handover from Langen Information 20:28 Contacting Brussels Information over the border 21:08 Views towards Bütgenbach and then Spa-Francorchamps 21:35 Passing the lakes of Coo 22:01 Time to remove the sunglasses - Oh, wait a second... :D 22:40 Descent, and ATIS on arrival towards Charleroi while crossing the Meuse river 23:18 Requesting landing instructions from EBCI Tower 23:54 Joining right hand downwind for EBCI RWY 06 24:19 Turning right base 24:33 Turning final 25:13 Landing EBIC RWY 06 25:43 Replay - Cabin view 26:06 Vacating the runway, while taxi is approved (by another controller friend) 26:37 Taxi to the apron (Ryanair departing in the background) 27:17 Final words - thanks for watching!
