Daniel Tubbenhauer: Analytic theory of monoidal categories – part 1

Daniel Tubbenhauer: Analytic theory of monoidal categories – part 1 Abstract. The principle of counting is deeply ingrained in human history, evident in practices such as the use of tally marks dating back over 35,000 years. A major paradigm shift in counting occurred when researchers examined large tables of prime numbers: the tables revealed that prime numbers show patterns reminiscent of random processes. Such random processes are impossible to study by precise counting, but rather methods from analysis and probability theory are of fundamental importance. Starting with Dirichlet ∼1837, the study of prime numbers became mostly focused on their distribution, and analytic number theory (ANT) was born, one of the most successful fields in mathematics. This is a friendly 5-part introduction to how to solve counting problems in monoidal categories by analytic approaches: an analytic theory of monoidal categories mimicking ANT.
