Full journey from Nottingham to Skegness on board an East Midlands Railway class 156 (service formed of a 156 and 158) Super Sprinter. This service was filmed on one of the few services to use the Grantham avoiding line. Journey filmed on Thursday 22nd July 2021 on the service from Nottingham to Skegness. This service called at Bingham, Sleaford, Heckington, Boston, Thorpe Culvert and Wainfleet. Skip to: Nottingham (depart) 0:00:14 Netherfield 0:06:09 Radcliffe 0:09:30 Bingham 0:13:49 Aslockton 0:17:12 Elton & Orston 0:18:52 Bottesford 0:21:34 Ancaster 0:39:12 Rauceby 0:43:53 Sleaford 0:46:52 Heckington 0:54:46 Swineshead 1:01:06 Hubberts Bridge 1:05:42 Boston 1:12:40 Thorpe Culvert 1:38:03 Wainfleet 1:42:05 Havenhouse 1:46:32 Skegness 1:51:37 Note that this service used the Grantham avoiding line meaning the reversal at Grantham did not take place for this service, this is one of the few services to use this route. Services on this route are all operated by East Midlands Railway (EMR). Services between Nottingham and Skegness operate at a 1tph frequency throughout most of the day with the majority of services reversing at Grantham where connections can be made with LNER and Hull Trains on the ECML, this service is one of the few that does not take this route instead avoiding Grantham. Services on this route serve Bingham (most services), Grantham (most services), Sleaford, Heckington, Boston and Wainfleet on every service with the rest of the stations on this line being service from 2 hourly to just 1 train in each direction a day, however this service while avoiding Grantham does stop at Thorpe Culvert which is one of the least used stations in Britain. The route between Nottingham and Grantham also has an additional hourly service in the form of the Liverpool Lime Street to Norwich service but this usually runs non stop Nottingham to Grantham with local stations being service by Skegness services. Since the Skegness services do not follow the ECML for a short distance north of Grantham any more the rest of the route is served only by Skegness trains except around Sleaford where this line crosses over the Lincoln to Peterborough route. Around Nottingham the track is shared with services to/from Newark Castle and Lincoln. The rolling stock used on this route is currently a mix of class 156 Super Sprinter, 158 Express Sprinter and 170 Turbostar trains, however eventually all services on this route are planned to be class 170 operated once EMR receives enougth of these units. Note that since the HST trains left EMR the summer only loco hauled services to/from Derby no longer operate. This route is entirely unelectrified with all services being diesel operated. The route is double track throughout until Sleaford then a mix of double and single track from Sleaford to Skegness. Although Skegness has a number f platforms only 1 is required for most of the time.
