Before they became Samoa's most loved band, Penina O Tiafau, Alapati & Malia Savea were making songs well before then. Their music played on the Radio 2AP airwaves across Samoa but were lost during that time due to negligence. Fortunately, a devout fan who was listening at this time recorded these songs on a reel-to-reel player off the radio. Donkey years later, that fan who still plays their music to this day had a son who would grow up listening to his music as well. Something common with families where children would grow up listening to their parent's music. That son of his was me. Thanks to our modern technology, we have the tools to preserve these heirlooms to share with people such as my dad, so enjoy. The video footage was taken from the aftermath of the 1990 Cyclone Ofa that ravaged the islands of the Pacific including Samoa, Tonga, Niue & Tuvalu. Using a Panasonic VHS recorder cam at the time, I managed to capture the damage Samoa was left with. However, you would not notice it today.
