Sister & Her Husband Moved Into My House Rent Free Bc Family But Started Shuffling My Furniture

#AITA #AITAUpdate #stories Story :- Max has been hardworking and independent his whole life. So much so that he achieves his dream of being a homeowner at a very young age. When his younger sister Laura and her husband Pete fall into hard times, Max offers up his spare room for them to stay in until they get back on their feet. Upon moving in, Max tells them not to touch his stuff, or go into his room or bathroom. Yet his sister and Pete repeatedly cross his pre-established boundaries and make his house feel less like a home. His sister rearranges his furniture, eats his food and favorite snacks, and throws out things she doesn’t like or deems unhealthy. She breaks into his phone to try to ruin his relationship with his friends so they don’t come by the house anymore. Max catches Laura and Pete using his bathroom, even though he explicitly told them not to, and they have one of their own. Max reaches his wit's end when Pete and Laura try to use his garage, where he regularly parks his car, to store all their old furniture. He’s furious and tells them they have a week to get their stuff out of his garage. A week later he comes home and meets someone building a shed in his backyard out of the wood he was saving to build a deck. Frustrated and angry, Max turns to one of his friends for legal advice and learns that if someone is staying in his place for over six months without paying rent, they’re considered a squatter. Learning this gives Max hope, and he begins the legal process to get his sister and her husband out of his home. However, he warns them first, giving them two weeks to vacate the house. However, Laura and Pete don’t take him seriously and he’s forced to serve them with the eviction notice. They beg him to stay, saying they’ll change and pay rent, but the damage is done and he wants them out. During the week that Laura and Pete are packing up, Max gets a call from his estranged aunt who lives nearby, where she disparages him for kicking his sister out when she has nowhere else to go. She then starts spreading nasty lies and rumors about him to their extended family. Upon seeing this, Max informs his sister and brother-in-law that he’s found a family member to take them in. He then drives them to his aunt's house, drops them off, and publicly thanks her for taking them in during their time of need. Free from his sister’s overbearing presence, Max gets his house back in order and invites his friends over to watch sports.
