Rise of Nations: Extended Edition: Toughest: The Entire World: Incans: 14) Tactics

Ahhhh, Tactics, we meet again. This time I get the upper hand though! Although it did take me around 5-10 attempts, and even then, there was a bit of luck with map layout (easy route to capital), forts and tower layout (didn't need to raze them) and having enough units to capture the capital. Tactics is a fiendish scenario, with a simple premise; capture the enemy capital to win the scenario. The path to victory though, is anything but simple. You start out with a big army and must make your way to the capital to capture it, and usually you'll have to fight little skirmishes along the way. The AI gets units periodically, sometimes cavalry/tanks and sometimes infantry. You need to defeat these units quickly and with the right counters. That's so you can move quickly and not lose units to attrition but also it allows you to move or inch closer to the capital. Generally, doing this scenario in the later ages is easier because: 1) Generals have more armour bonus, regenerate craft quicker and have a larger area of effect range. 2) Siege weapons have more range (and the Incan siege weapons are pretty strong at this point in the game), so you can blast forts, towers and the city easier. 3) Scouts become commandos and special forces which can snipe units or sabotage buildings. 4) Buildings don't have increased hit points or range, and so units will get stronger with every age, but buildings don't in this scenario. So, the idea is to use forced march, cover as much ground as possible and make your way towards the city center where the capital is. Quickly eliminate enemy units with strong micromanagement, use decoys where possible and advance close enough to get at least 3 cannons or artillery to attack the city. I didn't need to remove the fortress in this one as with a range of 10, its range was too small to be threatening. Once the city has been reduced, rush in and grab it. This can be tricky as garrisoned towers and towers close to the city can count as units (maybe) and they might need to be eliminated before you can capture the city, so I got very lucky in the end there. There is also the option to capture the first city the AI builds. This allows you to reinforce your attack (since you start off with resources) and make a prolonged siege on the capital, but I think this is difficult as the city will be built in different places every time you play the scenario, plus attrition can wear down your main force, and it can take time to get an economy or a military force up in 10 minutes. You must also keep attacking the capital, either razing down military building or outproducing any reinforcements the AI gets. After tactics, I naturally get attacked by the Koreans, but I have the Bantu (ally) help me out. This is a 2v1 conquest and it's simple. Keep your friend alive at the start and either you or your ally will be strong enough to start soloing the AI. When the ally or you join in on an attack, the AI will quickly become overwhelmed, and defeat is imminent.
