Depending on what period of history you consult #Church statements about Muslim and Christian relations, you may get a fairly different emphasis. For example, if you consulted statements from the time in which Christendom and even Rome herself were desperately defending her borders from Islamic military conquest, then you will likely hear about how – these guys – we don’t really like these guys. But, in the 20th century, at a time when the Church wanted to emphasize fraternity and peace in the world, you would come away with a fairly different emphasis. And for some who are only familiar with the more modern emphasis, it seems like more than a few people are left drifting into indifferentism – in which they think it doesn’t really matter whether your Christian or Muslim, or some other tradition. Whereas some have reacted quite harshly to modern Church statements and want to say that Islam, and all other religions are merely false and nothing else need be said about it.
