NOTTURNO op. 36 nr. 4 - Gabriel Faure' (1884)

Good morning to all... well yes good morning and not good night, despite this nocturnal atmosphere. I chose to make a video to answer a question that is often asked me: the "Night" can be considered a "Lullaby"?. No! The musical form called "Night", is a typical composition of the Romantic period, one of which is among the major exponents F. Chopin, inspired in his turn by the Irish composer John Field, student of Muzio Clementi. Not by chance had a huge development during the romantic period this musical form: typical of this current is "exacerbate" the different facets of the human soul and give importance to each one (contrary to classicism that tended to unify opposites). In essence the Nocturnal is not only an evocation of the night or the magic of a landscape illuminated by the moon: it’s a moment when the composer (or who for him) is examining himself, at the face of the day, when the noise and the noise of the day vanish and the man remains alone with himself, his dreams, his fears, his torments, almost an examination of conscience. A sublimated and rarefied introspection in a labyrinth of emotions...As I said before, the Nocturnal is not only typical of romanticism and only for piano: we can find it in W.A.Mozart in his "Eine kleine Nachtmusik"; L. van Beethoven el 1' tempo della Sonata "Moonlight"; in Mendelssohn in "Midsummer Night’s Dream"; inSchumann, Thalberg, Sgambati, Martucci; the "Moonlight" by Debussy, in E. Satie, Ignace Leybach, in the 2nd act of Wagner’s "Tristano and Isotta"; in G. Verdi: "Notturno a 3 voci con flauto"; in more recent times, also Mia Martini (2 notturni), Riccardo Cocciante...
