Making the most of a RAIN-SOAKED travel day in St. John's Newfoundland (Canada's easternmost city)

In this video, I take you on a rain-soaked one day tour of St. John's, Newfoundland & Labrador, Canada's easternmost city! I began my one day layover in Newfoundland's provincial capital with a walk down bustling George Street - St. John's answer to Dublin's Temple Bar - followed by a walk down Water Street, where I sample some of the best coffee in St. John's before calling at the Terry Fox memorial to pay tribute to this Canadian hero, who began his run right here at Canada's easternmost point. After, I get utterly drenched on a walk up Signal Hill - the site of the world's first transatlantic radio signal - for views of the iconic Cabot Tower (and in theory, some amazing coastal views, which didn't quite happen today, given the thick fog). After, I dry myself off with a tasty pint of Hazy IPA in an old firehouse at the excellent Bannerman Brewing Company. My tour winds down with a tour of my excellent room at the Hilton Garden Inn followed by a dinner of codfish cheeks and tongues at the excellent Cannery Kitchen & Social. As Canada's easternmost city (and North America's!), St. John's is geographically closer to the shores of Ireland than it is to much of western Canada - getting here is a full 6 hour flight from Vancouver and nearly the same from Calgary. Its isolation in the North Atlantic as well as its pervasive Irish heritage have helped preserve its unique accent and culture over the centuries. This is one of Canada's most unique cities and provinces, and though you can't control the rain and wind, the city offers enough to see and do regardless of the weather. Have you ever been to St. John's, Newfoundland & Labrador? If so, how do YOU deal with rainy weather while travelling?
