NB: IF YOU’VE USED A SPANNER TO ASSEMBLE AND FIT THE BASE RACK AS I HAVE, MAKE SURE TO DO A ONCE OVER WITH A TORQUE WRENCH ON ALL NUTS/BOLTS TO SET THE PRESCRIBED TORQUE SETTINGS AS PER THE FITTING INSTRUCTIONS. I'd been looking forward to fitting the Base Rack to the Jimny for weeks. I was initially unsure about which roof rack would be best for our Jimny. After spending a few days searching, the 1285mm x 1255nn Base Rack from ARB emerged as the victor. The Jimny is said to have a roof loading capacity of 30kg (not stipulated in the manual so it is controversial). I at least wanted a roof rack and awning to come in under 30kg with room to spare for storing our ground tent and recovery boards without exceeding 30kg. Fortunately the 1.4m Dune4WD awning is only 6.7kg and the ARB Base Rack is 17kg. I was initially considering a Front Runner Slimline rack but the full roof size was around 30 kg. Front Runner does offer a 3/4 Slimline option but that was also 27kg. If you would like to remain under the 30kg figure, standard rails are also an option but if the 30kg is not a number that you consider, there are many great roof racks out there. This roof rack was the lightest roof rack I could find and the size will also limit me from loading up too heavy. It was also competitively priced from ARB in Auckland at $1493 NZD. Id highly recommend the wind defector as it makes a big difference to the wind noise created by the rack. I also really like that the rack is a solid welded structure and does not arrive in parts that needs to be assembled. The only thing I do not like about the design is that the gutter clamps are curved on the sides where they make contact with the gutter. This makes it possible to cut through the rubber if over tightened.
