This video takes a few moments to demystify the formula for social network density. What does it mean to say that the density of a social network is the number of actual ties divided by the number of possible ties? Why is the number of possible ties in a network equal to n*(n-1) for a directed network but equal to (n*(n-1))/2 for an undirected network? And what does the letter n refer to in this context, anyway? In just a few minutes, I'll try to explain it all. This video is produced for the social science program of the University of Maine at Augusta
