These historic caves are the one where Pandus of Mahabharat took their first refuge during their exile. These caves are very mysterious, deserted and have a unique historic value. Alexander the great after winning the war against Raja Porus, came to this area and stayed in the Qila Katas Raj (2400 years back). Raja Porus ruled the area of Bhera and Katas Raj and these caves were an excellent hiding and fighting place for his army. There are many tunnels inside the caves which leads to unknown and undiscovered areas. The temperature of these caves remain 20 degree centigrade whole year. In summer these caves are cold and in winter these caves become hot. These caves were the main mystic learning & focusing grounds for ancient sadhus and yogis (jogis). For the degree completion of Sadhus these caves were a Must-pass assignment. These caves go way deep into the mountains. Geologists say that these are sedimentary rocks. According to scientists, thousands of years back this whole area was unders Sea water. There are ancient Fossils present in these caves containing important DNA of ancient history. These caves are deserted now. Only snakes, scorpions and bats inhibit these caves. There are small temple tombs (samadhis) where Sadhu's used to sit naked and practice their secret methods of worship.
