My day trip from Riga to Sigulda in the Latvian forests of Gauja National Park - a town sprawled across a scenic river valley & the perfect place to find old castles, prehistoric caves and quiet forest trails. 🇱🇹 🇱🇻 🇪🇪 See all of my videos from this trip here → https://bit.ly/InTheBaltics Sigulda is a one hour bus journey from Riga and is a relatively inexpensive trip to take. The town is surrounded by green forests and plenty of hiking trails. Some locals told me that many Latvians come here for an adventure holiday - I can see why! A full blown orchestra was waiting to greet me as I got off the bus and headed across the central square towards the Sigulda Bobsleigh, Luge and Skeleton Track. The summer bobsleigh facilities were open and I was able to watch it hurtle down the valley at goodness knows what speed! As I walked back into town I passed the White Pianoforte (Baltais flīģelis, koncertzāle) which is a small concert hall built to resemble a grand piano. I continued my walk along the Serpentine Path close to a fairground and amusement park.It wasn’t long before I was crossing the River Gauja and valley in a mountain cable car. From up above I could see the incredible forests and natural scenery of Gauja National Park as we made our way towards Krimulda Castle (Krimuldas pils) on the north bank of the valley. I spent a little time exploring the castle ruins and then set about following some of the many boardwalks down towards a number of caves. The most impressive of them all was Gutman's Cave (Gūtmaņa ala) which featured clear natural drinking water and 17th century inscriptions on the walls. After a little more walking and hiking I crossed the Sigulda Gauja Bridge and then headed back into the forests close to the castle. This area was beautiful and I enjoyed my walk through the trees and foliage. Before long it was time for me to head back to Riga, the day trips I take always pass by so quickly and it’s always sad to leave a place like this. Thanks for the memories, Sigulda!
