Seminar with Joseph Shulam (The Relevance of the Rabbinical Jewish Material Mishnah and Talmud)

Seminar: Panel Discussion with Joseph Shulam “The Relevance of the Rabbinical Jewish Material (Mishnah and Talmud) for a Better Understanding of Jesus and His Disciples” The Lanier Theological Library is inviting scholars and patrons to a free panel discussion on Friday, February 7, from 2:30 - 4:00 pm, in our chapel. This panel discussion precedes the library's lecture on Saturday night by Joseph Shulam. Registration for the Saturday lecture is separate from this panel. This 90-minute session on Friday will feature a panel made up of these five participants. Joseph Shulam, Hebrew Scholar and Christian Minister, Jerusalem Bruce Chilton, Bernard Iddings Bell Professor of Religion; Executive Director, Institute of Advanced Theology, Bard College, Annandale-on-Hudson, NY Craig Evans, John Bisagno Distinguished Professor of Christian Origins, Houston Baptist University, Houston, TX Michael Vowell, Rabbi at Beth El Shalom, Sugar Land, TX David Capes, Moderator, Senior Research Fellow, Lanier Theological Library Everyone agrees that the Old Testament and the intertestamental literature are important to interpreting the New Testament. Fewer may acknowledge the importance of the Jewish literature gathered and written after the first century AD. What is the Mishnah? The Talmud? The Gemara? How can they help modern Christians better understand the Gospels or the writings of Paul the apostle? Come to this panel discussion and learn about resources you may not have valued before.
