WESTERN FARMERS ATTEND KAVA QUALITY IMPROVEMENT TRAINING. A little more than 100 farmers who depend on kava for a living began a two days training today in Bukuya, Village in the highlands of Ba with the theme, ‘Growing Quality Kava for Fiji and Beyond’. Organised by the Fiji Agriculture Trade Section of the Economic Planning and Statistics Division in the Ministry of Agriculture and Waterways, ,the training is expected to boost the knowledge and enhance the skills of farmers to suit the ever-changing demands of the market. Also in attendance are representatives from the private sector, academia as well as staff of the Ministry and four observers from Papua New Guinea. Speaking to the participants, Assistant Minister for Agriculture and Waterways, Honourable Tomasi Tunabuna said that today marks a significant milestone as everyone present at the training embark on a comprehensive training initiative aimed at enhancing awareness and access to vital information. “Our mission is clear and that is to empower everyone with the tools and insights essential to navigate the dynamic landscape of sustainable farming practices for kava, weaving together the wisdom of our ancestors with the advancements of modern technology and innovation,” explained Hon. Tunabuna. “I would like to acknowledge the presence of the delegates from Papua New Guinea who have joined us as observers. It is indeed great to witness the exchange of knowledge between our countries. This will promote a sustainable and transparent value chain that is aimed at promoting sustainable practices for all stakeholders along the value chain.”
