When looking for the first 3-peat since Michael Jordan's Chicago Bulls, the Lakers went head to head with the New Jersey Nets led by Jason Kidd. This series ended in 4 with the Lakers clearly being the better team from start to finish. Kobe finished the series with 27 a game and Shaq won his 3rd Finals MVP with 36 a game. 2009 saw Kobe Bryant's first championship without Shaquille O'Neal. Coming off a finals loss against Boston in 2008, the Lakers were back to the finals with vengeance. The Orlando Magic led by dominant big man Dwight Howard and coached by Stan Van Gundy. Kobe was the clear lead of the team and he completed his mission. Closing the series in 5 Kobe averaged 32.4 a game and won his first Finals MVP with Pau Gasol adding 18 ppg to help the Lakers win their first championship in seven years. Kobe Bryant's last championship came against his rivals the Boston Celtics. Two years after the Boston Celtics and the quartet of Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce, Ray Allen and Rajon Rondo beat the Lakers in 6 games, Kobe has an opportunity to get his revenge. The series was a hard fought battle going all the way to 7 games.
