UPDATE: Police in Mechanicville have identified the man struck by a train on Wednesday morning. Police say the man, James Pelton, was on the tracks when he was struck at around 4:45 am at the area of 220 Railroad Street in the City of Mechanicville. Police believe there is no foul play involved, however they are asking for any information or had contact with Pelton to contact investigators. Pelton was living in Mechanicville at the time and worked at GLOBALFOUNDRIES. Police are still investigating. MECHANICVILLE -- Investigators are working to find out answers after a deadly incident involving a pedestrian and a train. Crews were called to Railroad Street just before 5 a.m. Wednesday. The train was heading West when the victim was struck. The Mechanicville police chief tells CBS6 the two engineers followed protocol and did everything they could to stop the train from hitting the person. They used the emergency breaks, but it was still too late. There are still a lot of unanswered questions right now. Investigators have not yet revealed the victim's name or age, how the police chief tells CBS6 the victim is a white male. The coroner tells CBS6 there is another mystery they are working on right now. "The individual was laying across the tracks. They don't know if the person was alive, or pre-deceased before the train hit him," says Tom Salvador, Saratoga County Coroner. Stay with CBS6 for updates throughout the day.
