Moa footprints found and recovered

Work will begin today to recover moa footprints discovered at a central Otago river estimated to be more than a million years old. A local man alerted the Otago Museum after finding the prints while at his local swimming hole in Kye Burn. A flood last year moved a layer of soft clay to reveal seven moa footprints underneath each about 30 centimetres in width and length. The sections of clay need to be cut out today before the expected flood comes through and covers them up forever. Some are calling the discovery a miracle. If all goes to plan, the prints will be transported to Otago Museum today for professional drying.
