Shawka Dam | Wadi Showka Dam Park | Part 1 Wadi Shawka (literally 'powerful wadi') is a seasonal watercourse in the Hajar Mountains of Ras Al Khaimah, in the United Arab Emirates. Famous locally for the Shawka Dam, a renowned beauty spot and destination for outdoor sports, the wadi has long been an agricultural area and alongside existing farms, and many abandoned settlements exist on the sides of the wadi.[1] The wadi enjoys unusually high rainfall of some 120mm per annum. The trail is 143 km away from Dubai. There isn't much around the area of the trail. There is a tiny shop at the entrance where you can buy some refreshments. Otherwise, make sure you have everything packed with you before you head there. You'll be sorrounded by hills and small mountains form all sides - a sight you don't get to see everyday in the UAE. Whether you choose to hike, cycle, run or just walk, you have 10km of somewhat challenging terrain at the Shawka dam loop. Don't forget that there is nothing around you so make sure you have enough water and snacks.
