Zenith Doragyurosu Vs. Magnet Spike - Monster Hunter Frontier ZZ - 辿異種ドラギュロス マグネットスパイク ソロ【MHF-Z】

Content idea: pick up a completely new and unique weapon in Frontier you said you would never play, and instead of properly learning it, immediately go practice it on one of the monsters you hate fighting the most in the game. Good luck! If you've watched my Frontier streams, then you know that Berukyurosu is the monster that almost made me give up on Frontier. After fighting that thing, I dismissed Frontier as a game with nothing but janky monsters like it, with terrible AI, hitboxes, AoE spam, etc. Its brother, Doragyurosu, was not different, between the regular version up to Supremacy Doragyurosu... I just hate them all. But after putting myself through this, I do kinda like Dora a bit more now. This monster's ecology is fascinating ; it's a monster with unbelievable Dragon element power, and is as powerful if not stronger than most Elder Dragons. However, that power comes at the cost of eating the Doragyurosu inside, with most of them actually killing themselves with the scorching dragon element flowing through their body. Some of them keep living, some of them die and then somehow rise from the ashes, and some of them manage to control their power ; the later are called Zenith Doragyurosu. These older individuals channel their dragon element power inside their horn, which grows to grotesque proportion and appearance. In this state, while they control their power better, they still constantly suffer from the dragon element ; their webbings, bones and flesh are all scorched, making flight and other means of survival incredibly painful to the Doragyurosu. All item descriptions of Zenith Doragyurosu speak about how the monster is in this suicidal state where their entire body suffers constantly. The peculiar description of their blood mentions that when in contact with Dragon element, the blood emits a "strange, pain-ridden groan". This is one of the most bizarre and creepy things I've ever read in Monster Hunter, and makes me wish the Dragon element and its origins were explored and explained more in mainline games. It always looks so otherworldly, and sometimes even seems like a source of Evil. The Magnet Spike is a weapon I said I wouldn't play in this game because I heard how absolutely broken it is. While it is extremely powerful, I think there are some balanced aspects in its moveset, though I could still think of a few nerfs, such as some motion values being reduced, and the Magnet gauge not filling as quickly as it does ; it's pretty much impossible to run out of bars to use. Said bars allow you to use the dodging attacks of the Magnet Spike, up to 5 times before the gauge runs out. The impact mode of the Magnet Spike is what I'm showcasing in this video. It's an amazing weapon that feels like a really, really heavy Hammer or Hunting Horn, but still its own thing. It has evasive capabilities with the gauge, but can also parry. The Triple Strike also reminds me of the Big Bang Combo of Hammer in mainline ; being a very slow, completely idle combo you perform on special openings, with a powerful and satisfying finisher. The weapon is stupidly slow, but comes with insane Motion Values. Nearly nothing about this weapon feels "over the top" like I always thought, now that I've had it in hands. The moveset makes perfect sense, and the switching mechanism between cutting mode and blunt mode is also visually so simple compared to Swaxe or Charge Blade. The Magnetic Pin and other Magnetic properties of the weapon also have proper explanation, as this weapon was created using the magnetic properties of materials from the Elder Dragons Rukodiora and Rebidiora, as well as the Fanged Beasts Lolo and Ray Gougarf. The only thing I find to be a bit too much is the Magnetic Attraction and Repels from the monster. The weapon functions between parries and evasive attacks. Unlike other weapons, the Magnet Spike's forward, side, and backward dodging attacks are not triggered depending on the position of the camera, but are instead triggered with specific button presses. Say I'm using a Switch controller ; to attack forward I press X, to attack to the left or right I press Y or A respectively, and to attack backwards I press B. It takes time to get used to, but it's pretty intuitive. There's a lot of room for improvement in this run, and my set wasn't exactly tailor-made for the encounter (I could've used Earplugs Up instead of Ceaseless Up, which didn't activate once due to the downtime) but it's okay, since these videos are also meant to be showcases of the monster itself, I'm glad Dora has 3 minutes of screen time instead of 2 if you see what I mean.. I'm having a lot of fun playing this weapon, and will continue doing so. Same goes for Tonfas, which will get their own video.
