Jordan Bianchi and Christa Haley, a New York City based filmmaker, director, and thesis candidate at the NYU Graduate Film Program, dive into the complexities of navigating a career in the arts. A bit about Christa: Christa grew up in rural upstate, NY, an hour south of Montréal. As a child, she admired her grandfather who made home movies, which inspired her dream of directing at age ten. Christa is currently a thesis candidate at the NYU Graduate Film Program. Her first narrative short film Swim Captain played at several regional festivals including the Montclair Film Festival and received awards at Woodstock and RiverRun. Her follow-up short Tragedy Babes had its world premiere at Palm Springs ShortFest. She began her career as a full-time intern on the set of the independent feature The Place Beyond the Pines (‘12) and worked at Blockbuster on the weekends. During the film’s post production, she was hired as director Derek Cianfrance’s assistant. Since then, she has worked in the editorial department on major feature films and television shows including Mary Poppins Returns (‘18), Harriet (’19), Magic Mike’s Last Dance ('23), and HBO’s Limited Series Scenes from a Marriage (’21). As a filmmaker, Christa is interested in exploring femininity, often through a dark analytical lens.
