In some areas its described as noxious and invasive, and it can outcompete some native species in some areas. A lot of grazing animals don't particularly like to eat it, and it can become established quickly in open clearing in forests and other disturbances. One plant can produce as much as 180000 seeds, and the seeds can remain viable for up to 100 years.
