Solan was originally the capital of the princely state, Baghat. A defining feature of Solan, is its ancient temples and monasteries. The Shoolini Mata Temple and Jatoli Shiv Temple are popular attractions for tourists. The hill-town is named after the Hindu goddess Shoolini Devi who is a manifestation of Goddess Durga in Her warrior aspect. Shoolini, when translated literally, means 'the goddess wielding the spear'. Every year in June, a fair venerating the Goddess is held, featuring a 3-day mela at the central ground. Mohan Shakti National Heritage Park, also referred to as the Solan Heritage Park, is a modern-era Indian heritage complex in Harat, near Solan, Himachal Pradesh, India. Located at a distance of about 15 km from Solan, Ashwani Khad Waterfall is a popular tourist attraction in town. Surrounded by leafy forests and rocky hills, the waterfall is visited by many tourists throughout the year. The best time to visit Ashwani Khad Waterfall is during the monsoon season. The rain along with the cascading water on the uniquely shaped rock formations make for a stunning sight! Jatoli Shiva Temple is located in Solan district of Himachal Pradesh state of India, which was founded by Sri Sri 1008 Swami Krishnananda Paramhans Maharaj. Swami Krishnananda Paramhans came to Jatoli in 1950. The construction work of the temple started in 1974. This magnificent Shiva temple is located in the beautiful plains of Jatoli. The city has one of the oldest breweries in the country, and also has a 300-year-old fort located at the top of a hill.
