The Oxford English Dictionary defines an “ally” as someone “who helps another; a supporter.” And Omar’s cultural and religious heritage have led him on a life-long quest to find allies willing to support cross-cultural peace and understanding. In his TEDxACU talk, Omar blends stories from his own childhood with legal and political issues at the heart of questions about fostering communities that seek justice. Omar El-Halwagi is a Texan, a former Texas A&M Aggie, a Truman Scholar, a University of Michigan law student, a Harvard public policy student, and a Muslim-American. He hopes to use his JD and his voice to make a difference for marginalized communities.
