Suzuki Swift Hybrid 2024 review: Next-gen city car targets Toyota Yaris with new 3-cylinder engine

The 2024 Suzuki Swift Hybrid is making major moves, with the new fourth-generation light hatchback taking the series into petrol-electric territory for the first time. That said, it's important to note it actually uses a 12-volt mild-hybrid system, so it's not at all similar to the style of full series-parallel hybrid powertrain that Toyota has pioneered for more than 25 years. Either way, the new Swift Hybrid is a step in the right direction, with it powered by a 1.2-litre three-cylinder petrol engine that produces 61kW of power and 112Nm of torque. That said, it's assisted by an integrated starter generator (ISG), which adds another 2.3kW/60Nm into the acceleration equation when possible and extended engine stop-start operation. And yes, there's even a rare optional five-speed manual gearbox.
