Gesso Transfer - Mixed Media Tutorial by Sandra Duran Wilson This mixed media tutorial will show you how to get a transfer to look like it does printed on paper. The benefit to a transfer is that you can distress it and alter it. You can use found images, your own photos or a compilation of images. So many possibilities. PRODUCTS Golden Gesso - https://amzn.to/3wuKyVL Or Liquitex Gesso- https://amzn.to/42V4tJe Foundations of a gesso transfer - When you look at a printed image you are viewing it on white paper. If you want your image to look the same, you will need to make your transfer using white gesso. You could use white paint, but you will get better results with Gesso. Surface - You can make a gesso transfer onto paper, canvas, fabric, panel or any surface that will hold gesso. Image - Your image must be a laser print, or you can use an image from a magazine or even a calendar like I did. If you are uncertain if the image will work, test it first by wetting a corner with water and seeing if the ink smears. If it does it will not work for a transfer. Image Ideas -I like to use my own photographs and sometimes I alter them in photo editing apps. Print them on a laser printer from the office supply store. You may resize and alter scale on the copy machines as well. This can be a lot of fun. If you are going to make a black and white image, use the color printer. The quality of the ink is much better than the black and white copy machines. Gesso - If you want a textured surface, first apply a thick coat of gesso and let dry. The drying time will vary depending on your surface and ambient conditions. Use a good quality gesso like Liquitex or Golden. Tools - I use a palette knife, brush, spray bottle of water, sandpaper (optional), brown paper (like a piece of a brown paper bag), image, key card, scissors and paper towel. __________________________ QUESTIONS?
