Fly Tying Streamers- The Laker Taker Tandem Streamer, an excellent fly for springtime lake fishing.

How to tie the Laker Taker tandem streamer, my go-to pattern for springtime lake trout. This fly fishing tutorial covers all the steps to tie this durable fly. Fly tying streamers for species like lake trout requires tough materials, and since lakers often strike short, a tandem streamer fly with a back hook is a must. Fly tying specialty streamers that hold up for species like lake trout also requires a good design. Pioneers of fly tying for trout used tandem streamers in the springtime, but we now have access to better materials and can build streamers that not only feature two hooks, they are articulated for extra movement. This video features the simple steps for tying the Laker Taker, and while it is a long fly tying video, these steps create a fly that will hold up for a bunch of fish. The pattern uses purple bunny fur because that color worked best in low light conditions for lake trout as the fly was developed. It can be tied in a variety of other colors and works not only for lake trout, it will work for other trout species in the spring on lakes in the northeast, as well as landlocked salmon. The fly also works well for large warmwater species like bass and pike. If you watch the video to the end, you will be able to tie this very productive big fish fly, and even beginners will be able to do so. I am an outdoor writer and photographer with fly fishing articles articles that have appeared in national publications including Fly Tyer, American Angler and Outdoor Life. His fly fishing books include: “The New York Fly-Fishing Guide (Amato Publications), “Warmwater Fly Fishing- Finding and Catching Warmwater Species), and his new book, “The Greats of Adirondack Fly Fishing.” My new book explores the lives of six anglers who shaped fly fishing in New York’s Adirondack Mountains, including their fly patterns. I am a lifelong fly fisherman and fly tyer since age 7, He has fished extensively throughout the Northeast. I have also tied flies for the same amount of time and have created fly patterns for trout and warmwater species. I have produced two fly fishing DVDs including “Tying.
