A great feeling crossing the border into Spain at Tui | Hike the Camino

The route between Rubiães and Tui on the Camino Português Central Route is another beautiful and historic section of the pilgrimage. Here’s what you can expect: Distance: Approximately 19 kilometers (12 miles) Terrain: The terrain is a mix of rural paths, small villages, and some forested areas. It’s a bit less challenging than the previous section from Casa de Fernanda to Rubiães, but there are still some hilly sections. The route descends gradually from Rubiães towards Valença, with a short climb just before reaching the Portuguese-Spanish border. Key Points Along the Way: 1. Rubiães: Start your day in this peaceful town. If you stayed at the albergue here, make sure to get a good breakfast before heading out. 2. São Bento da Porta Aberta: Shortly after leaving Rubiães, you’ll pass this small chapel, which is a good spot for a brief pause and reflection. 3. Fontoura: A small village where you can take a rest and perhaps grab a snack or coffee. 4. Valença: This historic border town is your last stop in Portugal. It’s worth exploring the well-preserved fortress (Fortaleza de Valença) with its medieval walls and ramparts. The views from the fort over the Minho River and into Spain are spectacular. 5. International Bridge: Crossing the bridge over the Minho River, you’ll leave Portugal and enter Spain. The bridge connects the towns of Valença (Portugal) and Tui (Spain). 6. Tui: Your destination for the day, Tui is a charming town with a rich history. The Tui Cathedral is a must-see, with its blend of Romanesque and Gothic architecture. 🔔Dare to discover hiking paths less traveled?
