What is Neorealism? | Explaining Theories of International Relations [Structural/Neo-Realism]

Do you want to understand neorealism? Here is a detailed explanation of NEOREALISM theory of international relations. Neorealism or Structural Realism is a very important theory of International Relations. According to neorealism, it is the structure of the system that is anarchic. The classical realism insists that the states, by nature, are anarchic and aggressive while neo-realism says that states are compelled to be anarchic because the structure is anarchic and it does not allow the states to be pacific. There are two major theories within neorealism or classical realism. These are #DefensiveNeoRealism and #OffensiveNeoRealism. Defensive neorealism is the theory of Kenneth Waltz and according to it, the states try to maximize their security in order to defend themselves as the structure of the system is anarchic. Offensive neorealism has been coined by Professor of Chicago University John Mearsheimer who says that the states offensively maximize their power. NeoRealists have many times opposed wars. The focus of realists as well as neorealists is on the foreign policies and they ignore the domestic politics of states in general. This channel explains all major theories of international relations.
